2019 International Jewelery Summit Ends Successfully and AGA Launches in Shanghai

On November 8, the 2019 International Jewellery Summit was held in Hongqiao Business District, Shanghai, China. As one of the official supporting activities of the 2nd China International Import Expo, the summit was strongly supported by the leaders of Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Hongqiao Business District Management Committee, and Shanghai Commercial Committee. Xu Yibo, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPPCC addressed the summit, Min Shilin, Executive Deputy Director of the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District Administrative Committee, and Li Hong, Deputy Inspector of the Shanghai Commercial Committee, attended the summit. Moreover, nearly 200 people from the industry, who are representatives of international jewelry organizations, such as CIBJO, AGJA, and WFDB, representatives of jewelry associations from nearly 30 countries and regions and of 9 professional testing and identification institutions, and the Colombian Ambassador to China Mr. Louis, and his wife, and Mr. Rui Feng, Consul General of Indian Consulate in Shanghai, attended the summit.

Three professionals delivered keynote speeches. Among them, Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, Chairman of CIBJO (Member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council) focused on the importance of Chinese jewelry standardization to the world; Su Jun, Deputy Director of Beijing Research Institute of NGTC, focused on the national standard of "Name of Jewelry and Jade" and its influence on China's jewelry industry; and Chen Yu, from China Gems & Jade Exchange, focused on tracing standard and application of gems and jade.

Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, Chairman of CIBJO mentioned in his speech that China Gems & Jade Exchange has officially joined the CIBJO national membership as the representative of China.

At the summit, nine national jewelry laboratories and industry organizations, as founding members, such as National Gemstone Testing Center (NGTC), Gemological Research Institute of Thailand (GIT), Gemological Institute of India (GII), China (Shanghai) Gems & Jade Exchange (CGE), Centro de Desamollo Tecnologlcode la Esmeralda Colombiana (CDTEC), Gemological Association of Hong Kong (GAHK), America Guild Gem Lab (GUILD), HGI, and Asian Institution of Gems and Stone (AIGS), jointly launched the establishment of AGA in Shanghai. AGA will guide the Asia-Pacific region to achieve the smooth exchange of laboratories, technologies and markets between different countries and regions through common standards, guidelines and rules, provide standardized technical services for enterprises and consumers, and achieve standard consistency.

In the presence of leaders and guests, China Gems & Jade Exchange signed strategic cooperation agreements with CDTEC, ACODES and GJEPC to further expand the scope of international cooperation.

"Standards promote innovation and development, and lead the progress of the times". International standards are an important technical basis for the development of global governance systems as well as economic and trade cooperation. At this international jewelry summit, all delegates put their heads together to build consensus, and actively promote the development of jewelry standardization on a global scale, so as to continuously meet people's yearning for a better life and jointly create a better future and make new contributions.
