On April 24, the Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Summit 2025 was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Coinciding with the 2025 Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, the summit attracted jewelry professionals from ASEAN and around the world. Mr. Chen Yu, CEO of the China Gems & Jade Exchange, was invited to participate in the panel discussion, where he introduced “Shanghai’s Global Jewelry And Fashion Function Area” and extended a warm invitation for attendees to visit Shanghai for an on-site inspection.

At the summit, guests engaged in lively discussions under the theme “Cross-border Collaboration: Building an ASEAN Jewelry Network”. Currently, the “tariff storm” initiated by the United States is testing global supply chains. However, since China’s jewelry industry primarily focuses on domestic production, distribution, and consumption, the U.S. high tariffs have had limited impact on the sector. In contrast, the U.S. tariff measures have significantly affected major jewelry manufacturing and exporting countries such as India and Thailand.

At the summit, the China Gems & Jade Exchange (CGE) and the Asean Gems and Jewellery Trade Association (AGJA) signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen collaboration between the two parties. They will jointly provide supporting services for AGJA members participating in business activities at “Shanghai’s Global Jewelry And Fashion Function Area”. Meanwhile, AGJA members are encouraged to register for the Jewelry Pavilion at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE).

As a key global hub for colored gems trade, the ASEAN region boasts a robust foundation in the jewelry industry. We anticipate AGJA members will leverage the business-friendly policies of “Shanghai’s Global Jewelry And Fashion Function Area” to expand their presence in the Chinese market and explore new opportunities for growth.
